The Dakshineswar Temple opens at 6:00 AM every day. Devotees enter the temple to pray to Goddess Kali. The temple closes at 12:30 PM for a break. It reopens at 3:30 PM for evening darshan. People stand in line to see the Kali Mata. The priests conduct the evening aarti at 6:40 PM. The temple closes at 8:30 PM every night.

Rani Rashmoni planned a trip to Kashi with her family. She wanted to worship there. One night, Goddess Kali came in her dream. The goddess spoke to her clearly. She told Rani not to go to Kashi. Instead, she asked her to build a temple. The temple would stand near the Ganges. The goddess promised to live in the idol. Rani Rashmoni listened carefully. She followed the goddess's instructions and built the Dakshineswar Temple.
Ramakrishna became head priest in 1855 at age 19 of this Mandir. Swami Vivekananda is one of the disciples of Dhakur Sree Ram Krishan.
